COVID-19 and Tidewater Staffing: Prevention begins at Our Front Door

COVID-19 and Tidewater Staffing

These are strange times as the outbreak of the coronavirus has been crippling to the global economy. There is a long list of symptoms for this virus, some of which can be disguised as regular allergies. According to OSHA’s prevention guidelines, “this is a respiratory disease that is caused by droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. (osha.gov) It takes five to fourteen days for symptoms to present themselves. Here at Tidewater Staffing, we are adjusting to this new normal so everyone can be protected and productive. Tidewater Staffing is an essential business, as we contribute to Virginia’s infrastructure by providing shipyard workers to the Navy. Therefore, we have implemented changes to protect everyone’s health as much as possible for the global fight against coronavirus.

Education

Education is key in slowing the spread of the coronavirus. As a course of action to make the community more aware, Tidewater Staffing uses a “Reach Out” function to send a mass-text to all of the associates in our systems every week. This is a direct way to inform associates of what to do during these uncertain times. We also have posters of how to protect oneself hanging in each office. These serve as tangible reminders of what to do in order to stay safe.

Prevention

Tidewater Staffing has implemented multiple layers of prevention. Prevention begins at our front door: TSI has posted a COVID-19 pre-screen questionnaire on the front door of each office. We also require everyone who enters the building to wear a mask. As an extra preventative measure we have installed protective shields at the front desks of each office. In addition to these, we are practicing social distancing to reduce risks. According to the CDC, it is important to socially distance yourself because “it spreads mainly among people who are in close contact, within about six feet, for a prolonged period. (cdg.gov)

Care

This virus is showing us that we have to take care of each other. Consistent with the President’s guidelines: “If you work in a critical infrastructure industry, as defined by the Department of Homeland Security, you have a special responsibility to maintain your normal work schedule.”  Tidewater Staffing is dedicated in these trying times to ensure the security of this Nation.

At Tidewater Staffing, we understand how important it is for your ship repair business to have qualified and expertly trained staff, especially in these times. We train all of our employees above and beyond the basic NAVSEA Standards with hours of classroom education supplemented with real-life work scenarios.

Over 28 years of experience servicing this niche allows us to prepare and equip our associates with all of the applicable skills and information to begin contributing at the yards from day one. Whether you need qualified firewatch, offloading, welding, painting, or any other critical ship repair or manufacturing/light industrial talent, Tidewater Staffing can help.
