At Tidewater Staffing, Hampton Roads community support begins with people. We often talk about putting people to work because it is what we do every day.
We believe people find dignity, purpose, and opportunity through meaningful work. A good job can help someone provide for themselves and their family. However, supporting people sometimes goes beyond the workplace.
This summer, one of our recruiters, Howard, saw a need in his community. Instead of waiting for someone else to act, he decided to help.
Howard organized a back-to-school community event for local children and families. He collected backpacks, school supplies, and other classroom essentials. These items helped students begin the school year prepared and ready to learn.
There was no nonprofit organization managing the event. In addition, there was no formal charitable foundation behind it. Howard simply saw a way to help his neighbors and got to work.
That did not surprise those of us who know him.
Howard is an important part of the Tidewater Staffing team. He is also an excellent recruiter whose work centers on helping people. Each day, he learns about candidates, understands their goals, and connects them with job opportunities.
His work in the community comes from that same desire to help others.
When Howard told us about the event, Tidewater Staffing was proud to support his efforts. We did not get involved because it was a corporate program or paid sponsorship. Instead, we supported it because helping others reflects what our company has always believed.
Hampton Roads Community Support Starts With People
For decades, Tidewater Staffing has helped build the workforce that supports Hampton Roads. Our employees serve local shipyards, industrial businesses, contractors, and the maritime community.
We recruit workers, provide training, and connect employers with the talent they need. Most importantly, we help people find opportunities to build careers and support their families.

However, those values do not stop at our doors.
Howard’s back-to-school event shows what that commitment can look like in the community. He recognized a need, rolled up his sleeves, and did something about it.

Howard did not wait for Tidewater Staffing to create a program. He took the initiative and built something himself. Then, our role was simple: we got behind him.

Sometimes that means helping someone find their next job.
Other times, it means helping a child begin the school year with a backpack full of supplies. With the right tools and support, that child can walk into the classroom feeling prepared and ready to learn.
Both matter.
