Outside Machinist Jobs – Hampton Roads, VA 

Experienced Outside Machinists are needed to support shipyard operations across the Hampton Roads, Virginia area, working on naval and commercial vessels.

This role focuses on the installation, maintenance, alignment, and repair of mechanical equipment and shipboard systems, including engines, pumps, valves, and auxiliary machinery.

Key Responsibilities

• Disassemble, inspect, repair, and reassemble valves, pumps, and mechanical components
• Install and repair deck machinery, main engines, turbines, and generator systems
• Perform precision alignment of engines and equipment using horizontal and vertical reference lines
• Install piping systems for steam, exhaust, suction, discharge, heating, and refrigeration
• Overhaul and maintain refrigeration and auxiliary systems
• Install structural components such as stanchions, handrails, ladders, and gratings
• Operate machinery manually or through control systems to support repairs and installations
• Inspect equipment and materials to ensure proper function and safety standards
• Work closely with team members to complete assigned shipyard projects efficiently

Qualifications

• Experience as an Outside Machinist, Marine Machinist, or Industrial Mechanic
• Strong mechanical background in diesel engines, pumps, valves, and rotating equipment
• Ability to perform precision alignment and mechanical troubleshooting
• Experience reading blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings
• Familiarity with shipboard systems and maintenance procedures
• 5+ years of related experience preferred

Work Environment & Project Scope

Work may include new construction, repair, overhaul, and modernization projects within shipyards. Assignments vary based on experience level and current project needs across the Hampton Roads area.
