Job Description
Tidewater Staffing is seeking experienced Marine Carpenters to support shipbuilding, ship repair, and industrial projects throughout the Hampton Roads area. This position is responsible for constructing, installing, repairing, and maintaining wooden structures, forms, fixtures, and related components aboard ships and within shipyard facilities.
The ideal candidate has experience reading blueprints, working with a variety of carpentry tools, and producing quality workmanship while maintaining a strong commitment to workplace safety.
Responsibilities
- Measure, mark, and lay out materials using blueprints, drawings, and project specifications.
- Cut, shape, fabricate, and install wood, plywood, fiberglass, plastic, drywall, and other construction materials.
- Build and install shipboard fixtures, bulkheads, decking, framing, and structural components.
- Construct wooden forms for concrete placement and industrial projects.
- Install doors, windows, trim, cabinetry, and related finish carpentry items.
- Safely operate hand tools, power tools, saws, drills, routers, sanders, and measuring equipment.
- Verify completed work using levels, framing squares, measuring tools, and layout equipment.
- Erect and dismantle scaffolding as required.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Follow OSHA regulations, shipyard safety procedures, and company quality standards.
- Work collaboratively with supervisors and other skilled trades to complete assigned projects.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Marine Carpenter, Shipyard Carpenter, Industrial Carpenter, Commercial Carpenter, or Form Carpenter, or completion of a vocational program, technical school, or carpentry apprenticeship.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
- Strong knowledge of carpentry methods, materials, and installation techniques.
- Experience safely operating carpentry hand tools and power equipment.
- Basic math and measurement skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Shipyard or Navy repair experience
- Experience working aboard naval or commercial vessels
- Scaffold experience
- Current TWIC card is a plus
Physical Requirements
- Lift up to 50 pounds.
- Stand, climb, bend, kneel, crouch, and work in confined spaces or at heights.
- Perform physically demanding work in indoor and outdoor shipyard environments.
- Work safely in varying weather conditions while wearing required PPE.
