Job Description
Tidewater Staffing is seeking experienced Marine Pipefitters to support shipyard operations throughout the Hampton Roads area. This position involves the layout, fabrication, installation, repair, and testing of piping systems aboard naval and commercial vessels.
Successful candidates will have experience working in shipyards, industrial facilities, or marine construction environments and possess the ability to read blueprints, fabricate piping systems, and complete installations to precise specifications.
Responsibilities
- Perform layout, fit-up, fabrication, and installation of marine piping systems.
- Read and interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
- Cut, thread, bevel, bend, and assemble pipe and fittings to required tolerances.
- Install piping through bulkheads, decks, machinery spaces, and other shipboard compartments.
- Perform hydrostatic, pneumatic, and pressure testing to verify system integrity.
- Verify measurements, alignment, and quality of completed installations.
- Assist with pipe fabrication using shop equipment, fixtures, and jigs.
- Repair, modify, or replace existing piping systems during ship repair and modernization projects.
- Safely operate hand tools, power tools, grinders, threading machines, and pipe fabrication equipment.
- Follow OSHA regulations, shipyard safety procedures, and company quality standards.
- Work closely with welders, mechanics, supervisors, and other skilled trades to complete assigned work packages.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Marine Pipefitter, Shipyard Pipefitter, Industrial Pipefitter, or Pipe Mechanic.
- Ability to read blueprints, piping diagrams, and technical drawings.
- Knowledge of pipe layout, fabrication, installation, and repair techniques.
- Experience working with carbon steel, stainless steel, copper nickel (CuNi), PVC, and other marine piping materials.
- Familiarity with hydrostatic, pneumatic, and pressure testing procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Shipyard or Navy repair experience
- Experience with naval or commercial vessel piping systems
- 6G welding experience (preferred but not required)
- Current TWIC card is a plus
Physical Requirements
- Lift up to 50 pounds.
- Stand, climb, kneel, crawl, and work in confined spaces or at heights.
- Perform physically demanding work in indoor and outdoor shipyard environments.
- Wear required PPE and follow all safety requirements.
