2023-03-16Water Blaster Job Description
Removes rust and loose paint, cleans metal, and prepares metal surfaces on marine crafts for painting using 40,000 PSI water blasting equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):
Assemble water blasting equipment, hoses, and places in required locations.
Set up required water containment boundaries.
Operates lifting devices to move equipment or materials to access areas to be water blasted.
Water blast surfaces using all required environmental and safety controls.
Disassemble water blasting equipment and hoses, and store them properly.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements below represent the required knowledge, skill, and/or ability. Individuals must be 18 years of age (minimum).
EXPERIENCE
Working knowledge of techniques for preparing steel surfaces for painting, such as requirements for SSPC SP-10, SSPC SP-6, and SSPC SP-7.
Individuals must have 3 years of experience in the Marine Blasting field.
REASONING ABILITY
Must be able to follow directions and understand safety requirements.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here represent those an employee must meet to perform the job’s essential functions successfully.
Must be able to carry a load of at least 50 lbs. Climb stairways and vertical and inclined ladders. Crawl in tanks and voids. Kneeling, standing, crouching, and stooping. Must be able to use hands and arms for long periods of time.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The shipyard environment involves working in cramped quarters, high places, hazardous conditions, loud noises, and wearing specialized protective equipment.
