Marine Painter

Summary: Responsible for touch-up painting in various areas; tanks, bilges, decks, etc. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. – Scraping or cleaning of areas prior to painting. – Contains or protects surrounding areas not to be painted. – Is skilled in the use of different types of paintbrushes and paint rollers. – Is familiar and understands the importance of properly mixing and handling coatings. – Is also familiar and understands the procedures of documents the specific job is being worked to. – Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Job duties include but not limited to:

Paint the interiors and exterior of various ships and/or air crafts carries.
Practice self-supervision on small jobs and ensure you complete each project in an efficient, timely manner
Match paint samples for touch-ups and other small projects
Prepare all types of surfaces for preservation
Removes old paint and debris from all types of substrates
Mix solvents and coatings accurately to formula
Apply coatings in accordance with specification and good marine practice
Capable of brush and roll painting for passing all inspection processes
Exercise proper procedures for painting in confined spaces

Job requirements:

High school diploma/GED preferred
2+ years’ residential or commercial painting experience required
Must be able to obtain base access
Reliable transportation
Ability to complete projects on-time and on-budget
Must be able to obtain and retain an access badge for NNS shipbuilding/HII
Must be physically able to enter all tanks and confined spaces.
